Daddy?

Tonight I had to run to the grocery store with A and C. I put them into the cute little car carts that Safeway has and hurried through the store. I still managed to spend more than I wanted to.

We were getting one last item...toothpaste for Luis when this man in front of the cart gave me a weird look and started laughing at the girls. I was not totally paying attention to what the girls said. However, I heard something about daddy.

The guy, who incidentally was African American with beautiful teeth, asked me if I heard what she said. I tried to smile and not answer but he would not let me off the hook. He thought that Adrienne had called him Daddy....and he thought it was very amusing as obviously we are not black and looked nothing like him. I told him to take it as a compliment. He kept pushing me to acknowledge that he was AA and we were not and how funny that a little 2 1/2 year old would confuse him for her daddy. Atleast, that is my interpretation. He was really friendly and then asked if they were twins.

He caught me totally off guard and I wish I had known how to handle the situation with more humor. I really think that the girls call all men daddy...as most men they know do have children and are daddies kwim?
