We went to a different park yesterday. Wooo Hooo now that the weather is cooling off we are going to know every park within 20 or so miles.
So I sat and observed my daughters. Adrienne made a friend almost immediately and started following this little girl (a bit older than her) around. It was the same as last time....my girls were like miles away from each other with me in the middle swiveling my head around to make sure they were both safe.
Camryn, my definately introverted child, wanted to climb on some rocks close by. Here we are with tons of beautiful playground equipment and she wants to climb on the boulders. She is totally my nature girl she loves to pick up feathers and let me hold them for her (yeah right....yucky!). For the most part she played quite happily by herself. The one time A and C did connect and run around together they bonked heads and C got a nice new bruise above her eye from A! When this happened I was in process of trying to look and see where they were. I could hear a child crying....it was Camryn! Mommy to the rescue!
As I was sitting there watching my kids I was watching a group of boys in the sandbox. Their moms were so far away they could not even see them. They had a bunch of sand toys and did not want to share them with any little girls nearby. I briefly intervened and told them they needed to include the girls as well. There was this really cute little black girl who really wanted to fill up the buckets with sand and play. By the way, her mom was not watching her either! The boys turned mean and dumped a whole bucket of sand on her head! I told them this was not acceptable behavior and went in search of his mom. Long story short she was embarrased (as she should be) and took the now crying boy home pronto! I know it's fun to meet friends at the park, but we still need to watch our kids! Shoot, I was watching mine and sometimes it took me a couple seconds to locate them on the apparatus.
Note to self...it is very helpful at playgrounds to dress girls alike. It is easier to locate two identical moving targets err...toddlers.
